Cast Iron Capital

Smith & Watson Building
1883

Originally mounted above a second or third floor column, this capital is hollow block with simple molding at the base. There are applied acanthus and volute ornaments on its front and two sides, trimmed down at each respective side. The reverse has an eyelet for anchorage to masonry, with an attached wrought iron "J" shaped anchor. There are remnants of sand-texturized paint on the front and sides.
