First Avenue, looking South from Alder, 1883
First Avenue, looking south from Alder
1883

This view down Alder shows, from the front right, the Odd Fellows' Temple (with tower), the Alisky & Hegele Building, the Porter & Wiegand Building, and the Terwilliger Building. On the right is the Gilman Block. The cupola of the Smith Building at the corner of First and Morrison is just visible.

The buildings on the right side of the street are visible from the opposite direction in the 1878 lithograph of First Avenue & Morrison, facing north. A better view of the Smith Building and its cupola appear in the 1880 lithograph of First Avenue looking south toward Yamhill.
